Mike is a firm believer that effective communication begins “when we get out of our own way”: overcoming doubts, discarding self-limiting behavior and developing congruency between the messenger and the message. These fundamental ideas, Mike believes, are the foundation for making yourself clear.
Leadership Presence is vital to an individual's ability to influence others. It is one of the most essential forms of effective communications and one of the powerful attributes of Leadership. It is that strong capacity to communicate with command, either from the stage or boardroom. It allows leaders to persuade and influence up, down, across and outside the organization. It drives vision, creates alignment, enforces delegation, invokes discipline, and provides recognition. Above all, it is that outward manifestation of a leader's behavior and that authentic presence of authority which creates a "reason to believe" and compels the audience to act. When leaders project Leadership Presence, followers validate it. In fact, research shows that companies with effective communicators at the helm are valued up to 50% higher than their competitors.
Mike Schneider teaches Leadership Presence, a form of communications that can be taught and put into practice through focused coaching. Having served as anchorman for several primetime network news television shows over 20 years, Mike Schneider has developed unique methodology and identifiable approach to teaching this critical aspect of executive communications.
Leadership Presence requires speaking crisply, eloquently and memorably either extemporaneously or from prepared text. It also requires:
1. Projecting confidence and humility
2. Communicating with conviction
3. Becoming a more focused listener
4. Instilling trust and inspiring your audience
5. Developing a relaxed, winning speaking style
Mike Schneider’s Communication CongruencyTM methodology focuses on helping leaders achieve Leadership Presence by understanding themselves more fully so they can meet the needs of their organization more capably. Mike defines this state as "Communication Congruency," that place as where interacting with groups or individuals becomes as natural as breathing. Mike’s approach to helping clients establish this state in is centered on the "5 W’s" of Journalism:
WHO
Who are you? What role do you play in your organization, in your community, etc. Does your role match up with how you view yourself? Are you being honest with yourself?
WHAT
What do you want? What is your objective, your need? We must be absolutely clear what it is you are working to achieve. You can’t arrive at your intended destination unless you know where you want to go.
WHEN
Time is of the essence. When must you reach your objective? Are you committed to immediate change or do you have a longer term goal that centers on incremental changes?
WHERE
Where are you trying to make changes in your communication style? At home? At work? In your social life? Everywhere?
WHY
And finally, and most importantly, Why are you looking to make changes? Is this self-generated, and the object of a passionate desire for growth, or a result of a "suggestion" made by your superiors. Your commitment to this process will make all the difference in the world.
After establishing the "5 W’s," coaching goals are aligned with individual and organizational intentions and the process and practice of performance improvement begins. Mike’s method focus on improvement one step at a time by instilling self-confidence and independence in everyday communication. This allows participants to utilize developed skills throughout the Leadership Presence development process and continuously achieve set benchmarks for success. Frequent feedback and continuous assessment is critical for systematically adopting a Leadership Presence. Throughout the process, Mike serves as an honest, independent, objective, sounding board and Mike’s acclaimed rapport building skills, widely praised by viewers, guests and critics will make this a natural and enjoyable process.
