Bob Rice is a Principal Faculty Member of Liminal Group, specializing in Engagements relating to Strategy, Dealmaking, Mergers & Acquisitions, Team-Building, and High Performance.
Bob’s provocative ideas reflect his unusually broad background: he’s been a high-tech entrepreneur, public company CEO, international law partner, Justice Department trial lawyer and best-selling author. He is a veteran of both Wall Street and Washington, a frequent commentator on business and political strategy for various television shows and publications.
He began his career at the US Department of Justice as a trial attorney, and then became a partner at the prestigious international firm of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy. But, bitten by the entrepreneurial bug, he left his law practice to found a technology company that was later purchased by a public company. After the merger he became the acquirer’s CEO, jettisoning its traditional business and adopting the products to a successful internet model. Along the way, Bob was also the Commissioner of the Professional Chess Association, where he produced various World Championship matches and a "speedchess" series for ESPN.
More recently, Bob authored the best-selling business strategy book "Three Moves Ahead" and has been an active member of the New York Angels investment consortium. He is currently the Managing Partner of the Tangent Capital Group, a diversified family of financial services companies.
In this whirlwind tour of the business mind, Bob Rice demonstrates how a "strong square" strategy drove Adobe’s rise from niche player to industry giant, as well as Western Union’s success through a hundred years of technology changes. He’ll show how AOL has played a crucial "exchange sacrifice" to revive its fortunes, and how Google is taking turf from Microsoft with a "minority attack." Most importantly these days, he shows you "what to do when you don’t know what to do," and avoid the fate of companies like Polaroid, Gateway, and our dearly departed Ma Bell.
Private Workshops"Dealmaking 2.0" is the art of rapidly creating alliances to generate growth with the least possible risk. It is perhaps the essential skillset for todaya's executive. And it requires a new set of negotiating styles and skills, especially in a world of "E-negotiation".
As the velocity of change accelerates, companies lack the time to organically address new markets and technologies. Meantime, the traditional "M&A" option involves numerous high-stakes risks and long-term commitments. As a result, the winners will be the companies that build capabilities to rapidly and repetitively execute "mini-max" transactions. That's why traditional business development strategies are being supplanted by the "Dealmaking 2.0" playbook, which accounts for future uncertainties, transparency of alternatives, and the crucial lessons of game theory in finding and cutting the deals necessary for success in 2010 and beyond.
"Dealmaking 2.0" combines the latest business thinking with practical advice to show modern business leaders how to manage these new realities. You will learn about:
* Cutting the New, New Deal: "Mini-Max" Transactions * Playing the Odds: Essential Game Theory Lessons for the Real World * Winning With Style: "Positional" vs. "Principled" Negotiations * Business Jiu-Jitsu: How Little Guys Can Use Leverage to Win * Remote Persuasion: Techniques in E-Negotiation * Overcoming the Obstacles: Lawyers, Threats, Egos and Mistrust Bob Rice will teach you how to find and make the deals that will elevate you to the top of today's business environment.
